Silicone prototype injection tooling of single wire seal
Silicone prototype Compression Tooling or injection tooling is designed to be cost-effective and quick. It uses high-speed processing equipment, as well as simplified and reliable design options. The tooling is typically 1 or 2 cavity, and has a life expectancy of 500 to 5,000 shots depending on the quantity required by the client. Our tooling is manufactured with a quick lead time and meets the most stringent specifications. It also has an exceptional level of precision and quality.
Key Features of Silicone Rubber Prototype Tooling at Melon
1. Standardized tooling components: We use standardized tools to reduce costs. Custom parts are often used in traditional tooling, such as cavity and core inserts. Lifters, ejectors plates, and sliders. These custom parts can significantly increase costs. In order to reduce lead times and tooling costs, we have introduced a range of standard sliders and lifting devices.
2. Customized Solutions: After understanding our customer's expectations in terms of tooling life and sample delivery, Melon's team of technical experts provides a professional solution that is cost-effective and within 24 hours.
3. Flexibility to accommodate engineering changes: Due to the nature of product development and its constant evolution, it is often necessary to make changes before mass production, such as in size, color, or hardness. Melon's silicone rubber prototyping tooling is flexible enough to allow for changes. If the modifications are made by customers, additional costs may be incurred.
4. Tooling lifespan: The lifespan of our prototyping tooling varies from 500 to 50,000 shots depending on the steel (e.g. P20 orNAK80). The best material is chosen by the customer during the quotation process.
5. Lead time: Standard lead times for prototyping tooling are usually between 1-2 weeks. It may take up to four weeks for larger or more complex designs. We strive to stay within this timeframe.
6. Shared Mold base: Melon retains ownership of the shared mold base that is often used in prototype tooling. This cost is not included with the price for the tooling. The customer retains ownership of the inserts for the core and cavity, as well as the sliders or lifters, once they have paid. If the customer requests mold removal, a fee may be charged for the standalone mold base as well as other shared components.
7. Melon provides free storage of prototype tooling during the first two years. The tooling will be discarded if no order for molding is received within the two-year period. If the tooling is not used, the customer will be responsible for all maintenance and storage costs.
8. DFM report: We provide our customers with a detailed Design for Manufacturing Report (DFM) before production begins. This report contains critical details, such as parting line, gate sizes and locations, ejector positions, draft angles, wall thickening, and critical tolerances, to minimize the risk or errors.
By choosing Melon for your silicone rubber compression tooling needs, you can expect efficient solutions, high-quality products, and a commitment to meeting your specifications.
